Key Song: “Broca’s Ways”
There are a few things every indie rock fan who lived through the ’90s can look back on with regret — like how Sloan should have made it big in the U.S., or how “cuddlecore” has somehow become a real word. If you were a fan of ’90s power pop, you probably also regret the fact that Vancouver band Zumpano didn’t exist long enough to live up to its full potential (and furthermore, apparently have left a third unfinished album languishing in the vaults at Sub Pop). The band released only two (great) albums before Carl Newman started focusing on his other band, the New Pornographers. 1996’s Goin’ Through Changes was Zumpano’s second LP, and with its intricate melodies and ‘60s pop influences you can hear the beginnings of what would become Newman’s distinctive style of songwriting. — A.G. on <a href="http://m.music.cbc.ca/blogs/2014/2/The-50-greatest-Canadian-albums-of-the-90s#!gallery.img:16">CBC Music</a>
