Far and away her most well known album, McLachlan’s Surfacing was a certified-diamond touchstone for every late ’90s adult contemporary fan. Whether it was the earworminess of “Building a Mystery” (she beat out Mariah Carey and Jewel at the Grammys for it) or the omnipresence of “Angel” (used in every emotional TV and movie soundtrack of 1998), this record struck a chord with anyone who listened.
