The Burning Hell is a Canadian band from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, now based in St. John's, Newfoundland.
History
The Burning Hell is the songwriting project of Mathias Kom[1] and band members fluctuate from show to show. They are signed to the Toronto based weewerk label[2] and distributed by Outside Music in Canada and Rough Trade Records in Germany and Austria.
Known for their strong live show[3] and literate and humorous lyrics,[4] Kom has been described by The Globe and Mail as Canada's "Randy Newman and Cole Porter rolled into one, with one eye on the coming apocalypse and another on the neck of his ukulele."[5]
Kom and Sharratt moved to St. John's in 2010 where they co-founded the Lawnya Vawnya festival and a Newfoundland based band recorded the album Flux Capacitor (album). Kom is currently a doctoral student at Memorial University. A hybrid of Peterborough and St. John's based musicians would form the band on tour in 2012 where a yet to be released album was recorded in Berlin.
In 2012 the band played 10 shows between the Netherlands and Slovenia in twenty-four hours.[6] The band dedicated the record to DIY scenes and networks worldwide. A film crew accompanied the band and documented the trip.
The Burning Hell tour frequently and extensively in Europe and have played in over 20 European countries including Belarus, Liechtenstein and the Baltics.
